The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has been helping to guide businesses and consumers for over a century.  Founded in 1912, the BBB is a non-profit organization focused on advancing marketplace trust and consists of 113 independent, incorporated local BBB organizations in North America.  Earning accreditation of the BBB is an honor, as accredited businesses must meet the BBB’s strict Standards for Trust.

Bear Rock Electric, Inc. (BRE), an accredited member of the Greater Maryland Better Business Bureau, is committed to following the BBB’s Code of Business Practices, which represents sound advertising, selling and customer service practices that enhance customer trust and confidence in business.  The Code is built on the BBB Standards for Trust, eight principles that summarize important elements of creating and maintaining trust in business:

Advertise Honestly.  Adhere to established standards of advertising and selling.

Be Transparent.  Openly identify the nature, location, and ownership of the business, and clearly disclose all policies, guarantees and procedures that bear on a customer’s decision to buy.

Honor Promises.  Abide by all written agreements and verbal representations.

Be Responsive.  Address marketplace disputes quickly, professionally, and in good faith.

Safeguard Privacy.  Protect any data collected against mishandling and fraud, collect personal information only as needed, and respect the preferences of consumers regarding the use of their information.

Embody Integrity.  Approach all business dealings, marketplace transactions and commitments with integrity.

This code represents standards that businesses in the United States and Canada must meet for accreditation by the BBB.  Accredited businesses like Bear Rock Electric understand the value of running an ethical enterprise.  When consumers contact the BBB, searching for a trustworthy electrical contracting firm, the BBB is able refer them to Bear Rock Electric with confidence that Bear Rock continues to abide by the high ethical standards that the BBB mandates in the Code of Business Practices.  The BBB conducts an annual review on all accredited business to ensure good standing in key areas including:

While other for-profit consumer-referral companies have emerged in recent years, only the BBB can claim to advance marketplace trust on a true non-profit basis.  In an effort to promote goodwill, when complaints against a BBB-accredited business are received, the BBB acts as a mediator between the parties searching for a solution to the dispute, where other consumer-referral companies typically just post the complaint, without verifying its accuracy and providing no opportunity for the business to respond.
