Bear Rock Electric Makes it Our Business to Fight the Flu
Bear Rock Electric, Inc. (BRE) would like to remind our customers and the public in general about the risks and dangers of the flu during this high-risk season, and ways people can protect themselves and their families. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urges people ages 6 months and older to get vaccinated.
For small business like BRE, the flu is a big disruption. That is why BRE is very proactive in notifying our staff and families regarding the dangers of flu, ways to prevent contagion, and what to do in the event of sickness. We also urge our customers to inform us of the presence of influenza symptoms in their home before any work is done. This enables us to inform and prepare our professional staff before work or free home estimates are performed.
BRE provides for vaccinations for staff and their families, encouraging everyone to protect themselves.
Influenza (the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. The flu can cause mild to severe illnesses, even leading to death in some cases. Young children, the elderly, and people with certain health conditions (namely compromised immune systems) are at higher risk for serious flu complications.
Most experts believe that flu viruses are spread primarily when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk, which causes droplets to carry the virus into the mouths or noses of people nearby. A person might also contract the flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it, then touching their eyes, nose, or mouth.
The CDC recommends that if you do become ill with influenza symptoms to stay home and avoid contact with other people except to seek medical care. Those in high-risk groups should seek medical attention.
Emergency warning signs in children include:
- fast breathing or trouble breathing
- bluish skin color
- not drinking enough fluids
- not waking up or not interacting
- being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
- flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
- fever with a rash
Warning signs in adults include:
- difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
- sudden dizziness
- confusion
- severe or persistent vomiting
Flu symptoms can include:
- fever
- cough
- sore throat
- runny or stuffy nose
- body aches
- headache
- chills fatigue
- sometimes diarrhea and vomiting
*not everyone with flu will have a fever
