Bear Rock Electric Joins NECA

Bear Rock Electric, Inc. (BRE) is proud to announce that they are now a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), a dynamic national organization serving the management interests of the entire electrical contracting industry.

NECA, “the voice of the electrical construction industry,” has provided over a century of service to the $130 billion electrical construction industry that brings power, light, and communication technology to buildings and communities across the United States. NECA’s national and 119 local chapters advance the industry through advocacy, education, research, and standards development.

NECA originated in 1901 when a group of electrical contractors met at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York, which included a major display of electric power.  The contractors saw a need to reform abuses that they observed in the fledgling industry and to foster trade.  That legacy continues today as NECA seeks to protect the public and to foster innovation.

While NECA represents electrical contractors of all sizes, it is the small business contractor like BRE that performs a wide range of services,  that NECA most often represents.

The same inspiration that those early contractors had in 1901, along with a true entrepreneurial spirit are what led Nicole C. Close to found Bear Rock Electric, a woman-owned, woman veteran-operated company that serves Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.  Her father and grandfather were both electricians and given the lack of electrician jobs in the current economy she felt compelled to create BRE for “more employment opportunities in the local area“ she says.

Whether needed to handle rewiring a home or business’s entire electrical structure, digging trenches, installing and servicing your generator or providing whole house surge protection, BRE is an electrical contractor that handles all needs, commercial and residential.  Nicole stresses that there is “no job too small; Bear Rock Electric can handle any project.”  Bear Rock must be doing something right.  Nicole was named the 2011 Entrepreneurial of the Year for Women in Technology.

Nicole and her union-member electricians (IBEW Local 26), like NECA, are dedicated to enhancing the industry through innovative research, performance standards, progressive labor relations, and workforce recruiting and training.
